Confessions of a Plannerholic: Halloween Week

It’s Halloween Week!

Yay! It is finally here! We are entering Halloween week. I swear, I wait for this all year long and now it is finally here! This year we even get to enjoy 2 weeks of fun since Halloween falls on a Monday! Most of the fun is going to be happening this weekend  coming I suppose, and then we have Halloween on Monday! I actually do not have too much planned this Halloween. Chris has basketball training on the Monday night, so I guess we won’t be doing very much other than our usual scary movies and Halloween candy! No parties to speak of! However, we will of course be doing a Samhain feast too.

Anyway, this week’s confession is all about Halloween Decor! I’ve been slipping Halloween into my planner all month and to be honest, I don’t do much extra by way of home decor, because I buy a lot of my permanent home decor at this time of year and have it out all the time!

Halloween Week in my Planner!

Just the other week I picked up one of the absolute bargain £4 planners in Wilkos mainly because it has such a stunning colour of purple! I decided to move out of my beloved Filofax Cover Story Flamingo and into the new cheap planner just because the dark purple colour felt like Halloween and Autumn to me! I started off by adding some charms! At the bottom we have a tiny little Deathly Hallows charm from our Harry Potter trip goodie bags. I have a bunch of them left and you can find them in my etsy store – Scarlet Moon Crafts.

The charms at the top are some of my favourites. First of all we have a cute little clay pumpkin which comes from Charlie’s Magpie and then there is a stunning Autumn/Halloween dangly charm which came out of the October Ugly Bug Subscription Box. I love how both of these look on the purple cover! It’s a little annoying that the pumpkin is on gold chain while the other charms are on silver, but I can live with it!

Flipping to the inside now and it is very much about Harry Potter! I tucked my Hogwarts ticket inside along with my Harry Potter address labels. The clips are made from Tin Pins and the Fox is from my Etsy Shop. The sticky notepad is a Target dollar spot one!

My dividers and dashboards are from Away With The Fairies and were actually a prize from the Edinburgh Meet Up that we hosted for the Scotland’s Planner Girls group. I love them and cannot wait to use the matching kit in November!

Finally, we can flip to my actual Halloween spread inside the planner! Like I said, I actually did 2 weeks dedicated to Halloween, just because I could. I am using a variety of stickers from Handcrafted by Sheree and Panda Planning.

Planner Spread Sundays: Witches Brew

Planner Spread Sundays

Well, We are getting ever closer to Halloween, and my trip to Hogwarts has come and gone. It’s time to let go of the Harry Potter decor – at least for a few weeks and start to embrace Halloween. However, I am not quite ready to let go of Harry Potter yet, so to ease the transition I decided on a Witchy theme for this week!  As luck would have it, I received an ‘oopsy bag’ from The Plump Planner when I got back and the stickers were amazing! Among them was this beautiful ‘Hocus Pocus‘ Kit. As I said, it was an Oops bag, but honestly the only possible error I can see is that the bottom of the paper was cut at an angle and some of the full boxes had a barely visible white line. They are still amazing quality!

The kit was only 2 sheets, so I knew I was going to have to supplement it. Luckily I actually had lots of sticker left from the Expecto Patronum kit that I used 2 weeks ago and the pinks and purples worked really well so I used the washi strips on the bottom of my pages and some of the check lists too. I also used a couple of stickers from a Recollections Halloween sticker set that one of my penpals sent me over from Michaels. That’s the little black labels. The Halloween countdown stickers that I am using actually come from The Plump Planner too, I purchased them a few weeks ago when I was lucky enough to catch her while she was open one Saturday!

Since I was short of ‘to do’ and ‘today’ headers I couldn’t really plan the same way that I usually do, but it was actually fun to change things up just a little bit! I decided to cover up the top row of my headers with some of the watercolour words washi that everyone was crazy for a few months ago – again I got mine via a penpal!.

I am pretty pleased with how the entire layout turned out! It’s Halloween themed without being totally Halloween, which is kinda cool since Halloween is not until next week!

You can check out my plan with me video on YouTube as well if you want to follow along the process for this week’s layout!

I also did a Halloween layout in my personal planner, but it is more obviously Halloween! I’m using stickers by Panda Planning and Handcrafted by Sheree! I’ve moved into my bargain £4 planner from Wilkos for the Autumn season. I’ll be doing a set up video in the next few days!

Planner Spread Sundays: Harry Potter

Planner Spread Sundays

I had big plans for my spread this Sunday! I knew that being away to Hogwarts, I just wasn’t going to be able to plan most of the week and in fact. right now as this publishes, I’ll be travelling all day! So I thought – do you know what, I am going ALL out with decor instead. I figured I would mark down all of the places we planned to go and then just go to town! So, I pulled out all of the Harry Potter stickers that I had in my folder – new kits and half used ones alike and piled them all up! I filmed a nice little intro for my plan with me where I went through the various stickers. Unfortunately, the actual file for the planning part of the video corrupted when I imported it so I don’t have a video for this week! Maybe I might edit the intro and add a ‘spread tour instead, but that will need to wait until I get home! Anyway, this is what my pile of Harry Potter stickers looked like!

This is how my spread ended up looking! As you can see it is mostly all about the decor and not so much about functionality! It was a lot of fun to just make it look pretty without actually worrying too much about plans apart from knowing that I was doing certain trips on certain days!

20161009_211147 20161009_21122320161009_211201Of course, the planner that I actually took with me was my personal one, although I moved out of my Flamingo and into my bargain Wilko one after decorating! I used some of the stickers that I had left to decorate that as well!

Planner Spread Sundays: Expecto Patronum

Planner Spread Sundays

Since Sunday is the day that we leave for our trip to Hogwarts – also known as The Harry Potter Studios – I am of course doing a Harry Potter Week! I am using this beautiful kit from Planning Poodle called Expecto Patronum! It is sold as a weekly kit, but it is jam packed full of stickers. I’ve done my Weekly spreads in my Happy Planner and my Personal Planner and there are still tons of stickers left. A couple of friends who are not Harry Potter fans (I know, why are we friends?) have also said that they like the kit too. It is not ‘in your face’ Harry Potter. Those not in the know may just think it is a watercolour stag themed kit!

I also finally got to use my Harry Potter countdown stickers as well which are from The Geeky Planner. I’ve had those for over a year in anticipation of this trip! I’ve also had my little Harry charm on there since September – he came from the September Ugly Bug Box!

The first half of the week is very busy. Lot’s of things to finish up for the trip as well as going to see Bear Grylls live show and meeting up with Susie & Hailey for a Scotland’s Planner Girls’ admin planning meeting! Great things are coming! I did a side bar ‘to do’ list for the most important points and added a packing list too!

The back half of my week does not seem to be any less chaotic! It’s Robert’s birthday so I want to take him out for a meal and then on Friday I have to drive out to Cumbernauld to collect the shirts and mugs that I designed for the trip. The motorway is down to one lane for roadworks out that way so I am not looking forward to the trip! Then of course, Sunday is travel day so I expect Saturday to be insane!

This is one of my favourite spreads that I have done in a while, even if it is also one of the busiest! It’s such a pretty kit that it is definitely going on my repurchase list!

You can check out my process on this week’s Plan With Me video too if you are interested.

As I mentioned, there were lots of stickers left after this spread, so I also used it in my Personal Planner as well.

Confessions of a Plannerholic: Movies I Want to See

Movies I Want to See

Last week we talked about the movies that we rated best, but this week it is all about movies that we would like to see. I have a pretty varied taste I think when it comes to movies, but for the most part you will find me glued to horror, comedy or superhero films! There are a ton of news movies coming in the next 6 months that I am pretty excited about including my most highly anticipated one – the Guardians of the Galaxy sequel! Here are a list of the movies that I am most excited about watching, although I am pretty sure i may have missed one or two!

  • Underworld: Blood Wars
  • Ouija: Origin of Evil
  • Rings
  • Doctor Strange
  • The Love Witch
  • Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them
  • The Bye Bye Man
  • Assassin’s Creed
  • Amityville: The Awakening
  • Friday the 13th
  • Resident Evil The Final Chapter
  • Beauty & The Beast
  • Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2
  • Annabelle 2
  • Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales
  • Despicable Me 3
  • Uncharted
  • War for the Planet of the Apes

I haven’t gone into too much detail since most of them are likely ones that you have already heard of and you don’t need a summary of! I don’t get to the movies that often. I will be making sure we see a handful of these in the cinema including of course, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Guardians, and probably also Friday The 13th, but the rest will no doubt have to wait until they are out on DVD or on Sky.

Which movies are you looking forward to the most?

Planner Spread Sundays : Here Comes Halloween!

Planner Spread Sundays

Here Comes Halloween

Hello October! I am so excited that it is finally here. You may have figured it out already, but for me – Halloween lasts all month. It would last all year if I thought I could get away with it! Anyway, this week the planner spread is all about Halloween being almost here! To celebrate, I am using a gorgeous Halloween kit from AJ6Designs on Etsy called Witches & Brooms. I have to admit, I went a little tiny bit crazy with the kit. I grabbed the Full Kit, The Personal Kit and the Monthly View Kit so I ended up with A LOT of matching stickers! I am going to be decorating my personal weekly and my memory planner monthly and weekly!

20161002_230421This is just the full kit that I am using for my Happy Planner weekly spread.

I really love the stickers. They have a sort of a watercolour feel to them, but somehow they still manage to be really bold. The theme is stunning. It is predominantly witchy, but there are also ghosts, pumpkins, black cats, bats and Day of the Dead elements. It all ties together really nicely!

So here is how my layout turned out. I actually really love it! My sidebar saw some action again this week, mainly to get me to remember to take my 5 different medications I need to take. Some need to be taken one hour before I eat, so that is a bit of a hassle since I rarely manage to plan when I am going to eat! I just eat once I get hungry! I also have a checklist for Vlogoween!

Setting Goals For October

It’s October! My All time favourite month of the year! Not just because it is Halloween, bur because it really starts to feel like Autumn! I have so much happening this month! Lot’s of family birthdays, lots of events. Chris and I have tickets to go and see Bear Grylls Live and then we have out Trip to Harry Potter as well! #SoExcite! Since I am going to be so busy I feel like I may not have much time to really get into heavy goals, so I am focusing on some small stuff!

  1. Complete a No Spend Month
I have tried 3 times now and failed, I told myself it wasn’t important, but the truth is that I have to admit that I have a problem. I am using online shopping to soothe my feelings instead of actually addressing my depression and it stops now! I have enough planner supplies to see me until the end of the year! I have more craft supplies than I will ever need. I’ll probably do a separate post on my no spend but the basic rules are no Planner or Craft Supplies. Only one take out and no random shopping! I will have a set budget for spending when on holiday and that is it!
  2. Get More Sleep
I have struggled with insomnia for so long. Probably since I was about 12 and I know it won’t happen overnight, but I am at a point where I have constant headaches from a lack of sleep so I am determined to get to bed earlier. Someone mentioned to me doing a sort of weaning program. Starting by aiming to sleep for 2.30am then the following week 2am and so on. I am going to attempt to get at least 6 hours a night if possible.
  3. Work to Live – Don’t Live to Work
I have been trying since January and failing so it is time to take a new approach. I am creating a new work timetable and I will stick to it regardless of whether I am done or not. If I stop spending recklessly, I would not need to work so much! 7pm is my limit for the month.
  4. De-Stash My Craft Closet
I need to make some extra cash and declutter, so I will be destashing my craft supplies!
  5. Walk 15km in October
I want to start getting a little bit more active, so I am setting a goal of walking at least 15km in October!
  6. Lose 7lbs in October
It is time to really get this weigh thing back on track! 7lbs seems doable this month I think!
  7. Take a Picture at Platform 9 and 3/4
I missed out the last twice so I am detemrined that this time, when I go to London I will be getting a picture at Platform 9 and 3/4.
  8. Save £50 For Christmas
I am trying to limit my spending so I hope to put aside £50 for Christmas time this month.
  9. Work On The 6 Months to Change My Life Challenge
Is it cheating to add this one in here? I have mentioned most of my goals for the challenge already! I am doing a 6 months to change my life challenge from October 3rd 2016 until May 2nd 2017 and the areas I am working on will be Weight, Sleep, Declutter, Life Work Balance and Finances. I intend to do a monthly or weekly progress report!
  10. Complete Vlogoween
I decided to try and do Vlogoween this year. Although not all vlogs. I will also be doing some tutorials and other videos.

September Round-Up

Wow! Here comes October, I can smell Halloween from here! September has been a month of ups and downs. Basketball season got underway and we won the first game of the season #GoColliers

  1. Complete 30 Days of Harry Potter Challenge – Success! I am taking this one as a win. I did fall behind last week, but I did a catch up post, so all of the prompts were answered albeit it in 24 posts rather than 30! It’s be a lot of fun and I am so amped up for hitting Harry Potter Studios next month!
  2. Put up at least 2 new videos every week. – Success? I put up 8 videos in September and there were 4 and a bit weeks in the month so that is pretty much 2 per week averaged out!
  3. Get back on track with Freaky Fridays – This was somewhat of a fail, but in reality I made the conscious decision not to get back into it in September. With all the Harry Potter posts I felt like I was overloading on content, so I decided October would be a better option for this particular goal!
  4. Keep on top of the housework. – Partial Credit! It’s not by any means perfect, but it is tidy enough!
  5. Walk 30km during September. – FAIL! I did not do any designated walking at all! I was too sick all month!
  6. Complete a ‘No Spend’ Month (8thSept-6thOct) – FAIL! To be honest, I really did not even try! However, I will be doing it from October 1-31.
  7. Visit My Best Friend – FAIL! I didn’t make it due to time, health and money constraints.
  8. Finish Work by 7pm at least 3 nights per week.- FAIL! It is really starting to get me down now so I HAVE to do something about this!
  9. Make it to both of my Spiritual Classes – This was a bit of a semi-fail. I didn’t make it to Tarot, although it was actually cancelled. I probably wasn’t going to go anyway as I have not been feeling very good at all.
  10. Set up my Etsy Planner. – FAIL. I am still not 100% sure what I want to do with it. I have the planner, but I need to decide what I am needing!

Day 30: How Has Harry Potter impacted Your Life? #30DaysHarryPotter

How Has Harry Potter Impacted Your Life?

As September draws to an end, so too does my 30 Days of Harry Potter challenge. It seems only fitting to bring it to a close with a reflection on how Harry Potter has impacted our lives. The first book in the series, Harry Potter and The Philosopher’s Stone was published in June 1997 – that means the series celebrates its 20th birthday in a few months time! Yet we still talk about it almost every single day. From that small initial print run of just 500 copies, the series has turned into a multi-faceted industry with theme parks, movies and every type of merchandise imaginable!

Not only that, but it has impacted the lives of so many people around the world! It taught a generation to fall back in love with books. It taught us the value of love and friendship. It encouraged us to never give up and it encouraged us to believe in magic!

For me personally, Harry Potter has gotten me through some of the hardest times in my life. I was late to the series. I didn’t start reading them until I was 21 years old and by that time there were four books out and number 5 was just getting ready to be published. I feel like I really missed something. I feel like if I had been reading those books from the age of 15 I would really have gotten through some issues a great deal better than I did. That probably sounds silly, especially if you are not a Harry Potter fan, but it is true. Even beginning the series at age 21 I found Harry and Co getting me through some tough times. I am 35 now and Harry Potter is still my go to on a bad day. You will find me in bed with hot chocolate in a Harry Potter mug, wearing Harry Potter jammies and watching the movies back to back.My wardrobe and jewellery box are full of Harry Potter items. So is my planner. It has leaked into every single aspect of my life.

Harry Potter will be in my heart. Always.

Day 29: What Lesson Have You Learned From Harry Potter? #30DaysHarryPotter

What Lesson Have You Learned From Harry Potter?

Today’s prompt is probably something that most people probably haven’t really spent too much time thinking about. If you are anything like me then you are more concerned about reading and enjoying books than you are about the life lessons they have to impart so you are going to have to get your thinking caps on. I am cheating a little because I studied The Philosopher’s Stone during my literature degree so I have a bit of a head start here!

For me, one of the biggest things that Harry Potter has taught me is that friendship is incredibly important. Time and time again the Harry Potter series has shown us how in times of trouble we can always turn to our friends for support. How many times would Harry have died if he hadn’t had Hermione or Ron or another one of his friends to offer back up?  It is not even just about the main trio. As the books progress we see more and more of Harry’s friends lending their support such as Ginny, Neville and Luna. Do not underestimate the value of friendship. Try harder to keep in touch with a text, a letter, a phone call or an email to let your friends know that you are thinking of them. After all you never know when you need a helping hand to slay a Basilisk!1470479077_what-harry-potter-can-teach-us-about-friendship

Another thing that I think Harry Potter teaches is not to judge people based on where they come from. It wasn’t a personal lesson for me as I don’t think that this is something that I am guilty of doing, but I do see it as a great lesson for children reading the books. Over and over again it is demonstrated that judging wizards who are Muggleborn or even half blood as being lesser beings is the mark of a dark wizard. This is a great metaphor for racism. It was often demonstrated that muggleborns could be just as competent as pure blood wizards – just look at Hermione!

Finally, Harry Potter has taught me never to give up. Even in the darkest of times when you seem like you are a lone voice in the crowd you should always stick to your principals and keep on fighting. What would have happened if Harry had just given up when the Daily Prophet and the Ministry of Magic were telling everyone that he was a liar? Never be afraid to stand up for your beliefs and never give up on your dreams.
